As TED Talk topics go, a presentation about how to inspire other people seems to be one of the most challenging subjects to tackle, considering that the talks are given influential speakers from around the world reach audiences of millions.
Nevertheless, this is the subject which Pat Smith, aka Action Nan of Final Straw Cornwall is speaking about in her talk at TEDxTruro on 25th October. The event will take place at Truro and Penwith College this year and the theme is Uncharted Waters.
Alongside Pat there are some fascinating and erudite speakers including child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr Lynne Jones OBE and expedition paddler Jeff Allen.
Dr Jones, a Fellow of Harvard University’s Center for Health and Human Rights, who has worked in areas of conflict and disaster for the last 25 years is giving a talk entitled ‘Giving the migrant child a voice’.
Jeff Allen, a sea kayaker who explores remote coastal environmentswill talk about his adventures circumnavigating Japan and South Georgia and an extended expedition along the Scandinavian Peninsula.
While 71 year old grandmother Pat is renowned for her eco-activism, running sustainability award-winning Bosinver Farm Cottages and founding anti-plastic campaign Final Straw Cornwall, her talk is focussed on how we can all inspire others to join the causes we are passionate about.
